f1000internetThe Charlesworth Group
is delighted to be appointed to represent F1000 in the academic and pharmaceutical market in China, where we have been well established for many years. Based in Beijing, our China Experts team provides a variety of services to help publishers increase their sales and revenue in China - including licensing and sales' agency services.

Alongside distributing F1000 products, The Charlesworth Group will also be supporting the Faculty of 1000 team on a forthcoming trip to China in June 2013.

Faculty of 1000 is the publisher of four unique services that support and inform the work of life scientists and clinicians. F1000Prime and F1000Trials provide a layer of expert opinion and guidance on published articles and F1000Research and F1000Posters present original and useful work via open access websites that encourage transparency, sharing and debate. Launched in 2002, F1000 was conceived as a collaboration of 1000 international Faculty Members. The name stuck even though the remit of the service continues to grow and the Faculty now numbers more than 5,000 experts worldwide, assisted by 5,000 associates.

Caitlin Meadows, Publishing Services Director of The Charlesworth Group (UK) said: "We are delighted to be working with F1000 to distribute their products in China and help them to maximize their presence in the academic sector there."

Tom Waggit, Global Sales Manager at F1000, said: "The Chinese market has long been growing in importance, and our recent successes there have persuaded us that we need to expand our Chinese sales operations. The Charlesworth Group offered the best way for us to do this. We are very much looking forward to working with them and already have great confidence in them.''

amazon-gift-card-giveawayAt the beginning of this New Year, The Charlesworth Group followed up with the authors who had used Charlesworth Author Services and hoped to get their feedback via a survey sent out online. The survey asked them for details about their experiences using the Charlesworth Language Polishing service; asked for their opinions on the ease of processes and payment; and requested details on whether, and where, their papers were successfully published.

All of the authors that completed the survey were entered into a prize draw, and one of these authors was chosen at random to receive our gift of a $35 Amazon Gift Card. The Charlesworth Group staff also wanted the opportunity to personally communicate with the winner about their suggestions for improving the Language Polishing service, and so the gift was personally delivered.

So, March 3 2013, staff from the Charlesworth China team went to the Institute of Geology and Geophysics, CAS (Chinese Academy of Sciences), to bring the gift to the winning author - An Zhiguo (picture below). Researcher An Zhiguo works in the physical geography area of his institution, and has used The Charlesworth Group's Language Polishing service twice so far. He said the Language Polishing service was very helpful to him because it helped improve his paper's overall readability.

"The Charlesworth Group's language polishing service made my paper much more readable, such as structure, active and passive tenses used, and how to shorten long sentences to short sentences. From my view, your polished paper is much better than the paper I had written before."

An also admitted that, before submission, he was initially cautious about using a language editing service. He was concerned that the editors may not understand the content of their subject research area, so they may not be able to polish the content accurately. However, his experience demonstrated that authors like An can rest assured that their papers will be edited and checked by subject-specialist editors.

Here at The Charlesworth Group, all of our editors are native speakers of English and have advanced university degrees in the subject areas they are editing.

We test and assess all editors to ensure they have the skills and knowledge to expertly edit, proofread and thoroughly check work at all levels within their subject area. The Charlesworth Group has a wide range of editors and these cover an extensive amount of subject areas across all academic discipliness. Each manuscript, article or thesis submitted to us is assigned to an editor specifically selected for their expertise in the subject area.

Now more than ever, researchers are under great academic pressures. More and more Chinese authors aim for publication in international journals with high impact factors. Influenced by this trend, the international journals need authors with better English skills and abilities. The Charlesworth Group's Language Polishing service is designed for researchers who are non-native speakers of English and are writing in English as a second language. Any paper submitted to the service will be checked for correct use of Standard English, including grammar, spelling, style, and readability. By polishing the language of a manuscript, it can improve the chances of it being accepted for publication in a chosen journal or book.ting staff, and these cover an extensive amount of subject areas across all academic disciplines. Each manuscript, article or thesis submitted to us is assigned to an editor specifically selected for their expertise in the subject area.

You can contact The Charlesworth Group to discuss your paper requirements at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

We would also like to say a final congratulations to An, our winner, and we hope he enjoys spending his Amazon Gift Card.
