London, UK - 04 June 2026, Royal Society Publishing has gone live with the Charlesworth Gateway through integration with ScholarOne Manuscripts, enabling WeChat-based communication for authors submitting to its journals.
Charlesworth Gateway is now available as a plugin for all ScholarOne clients, making it straightforward for publishers to introduce WeChat-based author updates without complex technical development.
The integration allows authors, particularly in China, to check the status of their manuscripts and receive updates directly through WeChat.
Royal Society Publishing has worked with Charlesworth in China for eight years, including WeChat marketing support. This development builds on that work by linking author communications more closely with the submission process.
Michael Evans, CEO, Charlesworth comments: “The integration with ScholarOne makes it much easier for publishers to deploy Gateway at scale. We are focused on improving the author experience by delivering timely, localised communication through platforms authors already use.”
Graham Anderson, Head of Sales and Marketing at Royal Society Publishing added: “This integration aims to support growth in Royal Society Publishing’s WeChat following and strengthen how we communicate with our authors in China. Providing updates through WeChat will help us offer a more accessible and responsive experience throughout the submission process.”
Hannah Heckner Swain, VP Strategic Partnerships, Silverchair, comments: “It's wonderful to see this Silverchair Universe partner integration working so seamlessly to connect publishers to authors in competitive markets, improving author satisfaction, response times, and retention from directly within ScholarOne Manuscripts.”
